• A paralegal (or legal assistant) is a highly trained member of the legal team who, under the direction of the lawyer, applies knowledge of the law and legal procedures to provide legal service. Paralegals are employed by private law firms, legal departments of corporations, banks, insurance companies, real estate offices and government agencies.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the Minnesota Paralegal Institute are:

• To recruit and enroll students with an interest in legal service and the potential to succeed as paralegals.
• To provide quality instruction based on relevant curricula, emphasizing the practical skills most needed by paralegals for career success.
• To instill in students a clear understanding of the role of the paralegal and the principles of professional responsibility.
• To assist graduates of the program in finding positions.
• To promote within the community a greater recognition and acceptance of the important role of the paralegal.

To provide high quality education in a supportive environment for individuals who can excel in a rigorous, graduate level, academic program and be successfully employed as paralegals.
